TCROW DEFENSE – Advanced carrier system for thermal imaging and night vision devices for defense and security

/ / Battery Technology, Customer Success Stories

From initial collaboration to further development

The partnership between XSPECTER and Jauch began with the controllable camera tripod TCROW XRII, which was already equipped with a Lithium-Ion battery from Jauch. Based on requirements and feedback from the defense industry, XSPECTER has since further developed the TCROW DEFENSE carrier system for use by the police and military forces.: The new version integrates a mini PC that enables communication with military cameras and supports AI-based tracking. Jauch developed the suitable high-performance battery to meet the specific requirements under extreme operating conditions.

German value chain for XSPECTER carrier systems

The defense and security market is undergoing change. The demands placed on technical equipment are increasing, and the need for flexible, mobile solutions continues to grow steadily in this industry. XSPECTER has responded by specifically recruiting software and hardware developers with expertise in the military sector.

The German Armed Forces’ requirement to use only components manufactured exclusively in Germany is particularly relevant to the company. As Matthias Mähler, Managing Director of XSPECTER, emphasizes: “The German Armed Forces attaches great importance to sourcing components from German manufacturers in order to ensure a reliable supply at all times and to maintain strategic independence. For us, this means that we specifically selecting components ‘made in Germany’ for our mobile carrier systems in order to meet these requirements.”

The power supply for the XSPECTER carrier systems is provided by Jauch, a medium-sized company based in Baden-Württemberg. The Lithium-Ion battery packs used are assembled at Jauch’s battery production facility in Villingen-Schwenningen. In addition, Jauch maintains a large stock of lithium cells at this location, ensuring both the storage and production of Jauch’s battery packs meet the requirements of the German Armed Forces.

The TCROW DEFENSE carrier system in detail

The TCROW DEFENSE carrier system integrates thermal imaging and night vision devices, as well as other cameras, into a fully-fledged PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) unit. It can be used both in vehicles — for example, mounted on the mast of an emergency vehicle — and in stationary deployment on a tripod. The system can be controlled flexibly via the XSPECTER app, a dashboard interface, or handheld devices operated remotely via these interfaces. Image data is transmitted in real time via the app. Magnetic feet and scan mode allow for versatile and secure mounting.

Maximum operational reliability thanks to wired control and protected positioning

From preparation to covert reconnaissance, the TCRWO DFENSE carrier system supports safe and discreet deployment. In the first step, soldiers set up the system, install the camera, and apply the camouflage cover. The tripod is then positioned in the field and operated remotely via cable, allowing control from a protected location. In the final deployment phase, the optimally camouflaged tripod and camera blends inconspicuously into the surrounding terrain.

The TCROW DEFENSE carrier system can also be controlled via an Ethernet cable to minimize security risks. During military operations, radio signals could be jammed or detected; therefore wired control without radio transmission significantly increases operational safety. The images captured by the thermal imaging or night vision camera can be transmitted directly to a German Armed Forces battle management system via the XSPECTER app to obtain up-to-date information in the field.

A key advantage of the system is that the tripod and camera can be positioned in the field while the soldiers remain protected in trenches or bunkers. This keeps their silhouettes hidden from enemy detection systems and provides optimal protection for the troops.

Efficient support for police operations

The TCROW DEFENSE carrier system is also used by police forces. It supports officers in tasks such as searching for people and identifying potential hazards. The tripod can be mounted flexibly on patrol cars, enabling effective surveillance and rapid response in a wide variety of situations.

Powerful Lithium-Ion battery from Jauch

The TCROW DEFENSE system draws its energy from a high performance, LI21700JD-50E series rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery from Jauch. The pack consists of two high-quality lithium-ion cylindrical cells from Jauch’s extensive battery portfolio. Maximum safety is ensured by an integrated protection circuit, known as the Protection Circuit Module (PCM). This module reliably protects the battery against critical operating conditions such as overcharging or deep discharge, and continuously monitors the temperature to prevent overheating or thermal runaway.

This battery is characterized by high energy density, long operating time, and a robust design capable of withstanding extreme temperatures and vibrations. The mandatory UN38.3 certification was carried out at Jauch’s in-house testing and certification center. Manufactured in Villingen-Schwenningen, the battery meets all safety, reliability, and performance requirements for use in defense and police applications.

Continuation of the successful collaboration between Jauch and XSPECTER

The collaboration between Jauch and XSPECTER is defined by mutual trust and a high level of technical expertise. Both companies contributed their respective strengths to the development of the TCROW XRII and have successfully continued their partnership with the TCROW DEFENSE system.

Matthias Mähler emphasizes: “We value Jauch’s technical expertise and reliability in the development and certification of our battery solutions, which are crucial for providing a dependable power supply for our mobile carrier system.”
