The Christmas season is known to be peak season for electronic gifts: from smart speakers and new kitchen appliance series to remote-controlled robots for kids there are lots of shiny and flashing gadgets under the tree. What many people don’t know: All these devices contain small but crucial components such as quartz crystals, oscillators, and, of course, batteries.
These components ensure that the devices function reliably: on the one hand crystals and oscillators regulate the timing, on the other hand batteries that provide the necessary energy. But what happens when the device eventually reaches the end of its useful life?
E-waste: The unwelcome Christmas gift for the new year
Every year, Christmas brings a flood of new electrical appliances but what happens to the old ones? Many end up in the trash improperly, even though they contain valuable raw materials and, in some cases, hazardous substances that do not belong in the environment. Proper disposal is therefore essential not only for legal reasons, but above all for the sake of the environment.

Particular caution is required when it comes to batteries. As a manufacturer, Jauch is part of the German battery disposal cycle. This means that we are legally obliged to take back batteries. Additionally we ensure that they are recycled in an environmentally friendly manner. According to the Battery Act (BattG), manufacturers, importers, and distributors must register, participate in take-back systems, and bear the disposal costs. For consumers, this means that batteries must not be disposed of in household waste they belong in the collection box!
