Lasting success: Jauch shines with silver

/ / The Company

We have good news! Jauch Quartz GmbH has been awarded the Silver Medal by EcoVadis, the globally recognized platform for sustainability assessments. This places us among the top 15% of all participating companies!

Before we look at this great result in detail, let’s first consider a fundamental question:

Why do companies need a “sustainability certificate” – proof that they are operating sustainably?

Companies conduct sustainability audits and certifications for a variety of reasons. Here are some important aspects:

  • Orientation and process optimization: Preparing for such an audit helps companies’ structure and refine their processes with a focus on sustainability and, of course, improve them.
  • Cost savings: Ideally, more efficient use of resources leads to long-term cost reductions.
  • Stakeholder requirements: Sustainability credentials meet the expectations of relevant stakeholders such as investors, customers, applicants and employees, and serve as a decision-making aid for consumers.
  • Improved market positioning: Customers may prefer sustainable suppliers, enhancing a company’s competitive position.
  • Legal requirements: Certain legal requirements oblige companies to prepare and publish an official sustainability report.

In summary, sustainability certifications and audits offer numerous benefits, including process optimization, legal compliance, enhanced market positioning, and cost savings. While not always mandatory, they can significantly improve business operations and help meet stakeholder expectations.

Internal Process Structuring: A Priority for Jauch

“When preparing for the first EcoVadis audit, the focus at Jauch was clearly on optimising internal processes,” says Maxim Rosbach, Head of IT at Jauch and a member of the audit project team. “Of course, we also kept in mind that the preparation of a sustainability report will be of great importance for our company in the future.

Four evaluation categories

Throughout the evaluation process, Jauch was assessed across four main categories specified by EcoVadis:

  1. Environment:
This category evaluated measures to reduce the ecological footprint, such as energy saving, emissions reduction, and waste management.
  2. Labour and human rights:
The labour and human rights category covered compliance with labour rights, the promotion of fair labour practices, and the protection of human rights within the company and its supply chain.
  3. Ethics:
Ethics is understood to mean integrity in business conduct, combating corruption and transparency in corporate management.
  4. Sustainable procurement:
Finally, sustainable procurement refers to the responsible purchasing of materials and services to meet environmental and social criteria.

Silver Medal: EcoVadis confirms sustainable management

Marc Schott, member of the Executive Board and part of the project team, explains: “A respectful and sustainable approach to the resources entrusted to us is very important to us. This includes our employees, suppliers, and service providers as well as the products that we develop, produce, and ship internationally every day. Our aim is to continuously improve our actions. The audit by EcoVadis helped us a great deal to examine the associated processes in the company in detail once again.

To make it into the top 15% of all participating companies on our first attempt is, of course, fantastic! Being awarded the silver medal is both a recognition of our efforts and an incentive for us. As a company that committed to sustainably, we are on the right track, but we must continue to pursue this with vigour.”
