Like last year, Jauch Quartz GmbH management again decided to make a donation to a local organisation for Christmas 2016 rather than giving customers Christmas gifts. It continues to be important for management to return to the twin city a small part of the latter’s evident commitment to the company.

This past Christmas the company, based in VS-Schwenningen since 1954, chose the ProKids Foundation - also from the city on the Neckar River - as the recipient of the donation. The Foundation received a total of 15,000 euros.

In addition to diverse projects for children, youth and their needy families, such as the warm school lunches, homework supervision, the ProKids meetup and the “Christmas Wishes” action, the Foundation is already active when it comes to enabling newborns to have a good start in life. The Foundation initiated the first “baby hatch” of its kind in the region a few years ago in the Franziskusheim (St. Francis asylum) in Schwenningen. The Foundation’s most recent social project picks up on this theme - a residential community for teen mothers. According to Foundation Chairman Joachim Spitz, the donation will be directly invested in the completion of this residential community as part of the new Neckar Fair residential complex in Schwenningen. The residential community is planned for up to four young women from the sixth month of pregnancy and mothers in need with children up to one year of age.

According to Spitz, the young mothers should be able to live independently here, while also benefitting from support services. The kitchen, bathroom and lounge are shared. One room should also serve as a support room - as well as offer an opportunity to get in touch with the child’s father. The youth welfare office sets the occupancy needs, while the job centre pays the rent. On Monday 30 January 2017, the residential community for teen mothers was inaugurated in the presence of Bundestag member Thorsten Frei, the new patron of the ProKids Foundation, District Administrator Sven Hinterseh and numerous sponsors and supporters of the Foundation. “There is a huge need for the facility; it will soon be fully occupied,” says Spitz confidently.
