A new machine is improving our sample and prototype\nconstruction in Villingen-Schwenningen \u2013 although calling it a \u2018machine\u2019 may be\nstretching it \ud83d\ude0a. Instead, what we have is a 3D printer, which brings\na number of advantages: both our customers and our own in-house staff now\nbenefit from greater speed and flexibility when it comes to producing\nprototypes and jigs or aids. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prototypes and fixtures or aids can now be produced quickly and easily.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Creating workpieces with the 3D printer is also called\n\u2018additive manufacturing\u2019. As the name suggests, the workpieces are created by laying\ndown the material at specific points layer by layer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ideal for creating prototypes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
This 3D printer prints with what are known as \u2018filaments\u2019:\nthread-like thermoplastics wound onto rolls. Two print nozzles make it possible\nto work with two different plastics and use both for one printing. In our case,\nthese thermoplastics are PLA and ABS. Using both has particular advantages when\ndifferent material properties are required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even our Jauch logo can be printed with the 3D printer.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
3D printers of this type are usually deployed for\nthree main application areas, and this holds true here at Jauch as well. On the\none hand, the printers can build prototypes quickly (Rapid Prototyping) to be\nable to test out functions or properties of the intended end product. They can also\nreproduce small-series production of end products (Rapid Manufacturing). And finally,\nthey can create jigs and tools (Rapid Tooling).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first attempts with the 3D printer have already been successful! In addition to the Jauch logo and a shopping chip, you can also see cell holders for batteries and a screw and nut made of plastic.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
The advantages: speed and flexibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Speed and flexibility are probably the two best-known\nadvantages of 3D printing. As early as the development process, we can hand\nover the first prototypes to our customers and simply test things out. Small tweaks\nto the components can also be made quickly. Individual jigs that are needed to\ncarry out the UN 38.3 transport test or the IEC certification can also be carried\nout promptly in this way.
