Not the key, but the transponder or key card is granting access to the company building. In private homes, too, the trend is moving towards the electronic lock. Depending on the product and manufacturer, door locks can even be opened by cell phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The demand\nfor electronic locking cylinders or locking systems is high, so various\nmanufacturers are pushing the development of new designs accordingly. Although\nthe approaches vary, there\u2019s one key feature that all developments have in\ncommon: all designs rely on lithium batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#134094\">Battery Solutions for Different Designs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The\nspectrum of batteries used ranges from lithium thionyl chloride batteries (ER),\ncylindrical lithium manganese dioxide batteries (CR) and button cells (CR) to\nlithium iron sulfide batteries (FR),&#8221; says J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Deloof, who oversees\nnumerous customer projects in this field at Jauch Quartz. These cells offer a comparatively high cell voltage of 3 volts and convince with a reliable pulse performance. &#8220;Many of our customers use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/en-INT\/products\/battery_technology\/getPrm\/batteries\/cylindrical%20lithium%20batteries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"CR2 cells&nbsp;of our battery brand 'Jauch'. (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">CR2 cells&nbsp;of our battery brand &#8216;Jauch&#8217;.<\/a> These enable continuous discharge currents of up to 20 mA and of course even higher pulse currents.\u201d Depending on the model, between 20,000 and 70,000 closing cycles are possible, which corresponds to a battery life of between one and a half and three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#134094\">Customized Battery Packs and ER Batteries for High Power Demand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>However, sometimes a CR2 battery is not sufficient to cover the power requirements of the locking cylinder. &#8220;In this case we have two options: If there is sufficient space for the battery compartment in the application, we can connect two CR2 cells together to form a battery pack. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/en-INT\/consulting\/battery_development\/getPrm\/ank\/Introduction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"We develop the appropriate design of the pack&nbsp;right here (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">We develop the appropriate design of the pack&nbsp;right here<\/a> in our German headquarters,&#8221; explains J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Deloof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/ER_Schema_freigestellt.png\" alt=\"Schematic drawing of an ER battery\" class=\"wp-image-1642\" width=\"314\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/ER_Schema_freigestellt.png 368w, https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/ER_Schema_freigestellt-300x195.png 300w, https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/ER_Schema_freigestellt-280x182.png 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 314px) 100vw, 314px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If, on the other hand, there is not enough space, we recommend using a lithium thionyl chloride (ER) battery. These batteries have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/en\/advantages-and-special-features-of-lithium-thionyl-chloride-batteries\/\">highest energy density of all primary lithium batteries.<\/a> For example, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/de-INT\/produkte\/batterie_technologie\/getPrm\/batteries\/lithium%20thionyl%20chloride%20batteries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">ER14250 battery of the \u201cJauch\u201d-brand<\/a>&nbsp;allows continuous discharge currents of up to 200 mA. Thanks to their low self-discharge rate of less than 1% per year, these batteries also have an even longer service life than CR batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#134094\">Where To Find Replacement Batteries For Locking Cylinders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>However,\neven the most durable battery reaches the end of its service life at some\npoint. A battery change becomes due. In most models, the batteries are located\ndirectly in the door knob and can be easily replaced by the end user. The crux\nof the matter, however, lies in the procurement of the appropriate replacement\nbattery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the\ncylinder is powered by an ER battery or CR2 battery pack, the end user has\nlittle choice but to purchase the required replacement directly from the\nmanufacturer. In contrast, individual CR2 batteries are readily available from\nrelevant online retailers. In most cases, however, it is advisable to rely on\nthe batteries provided by the manufacturer anyway. The reason for this is the\nso-called &#8220;Chemical Switch&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#134094\">Chemical Switch \u2013 Industrial vs. Consumer Battery <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Talking\nabout CR2-cells, you always have to distinguish between consumer and industrial\nbatteries,&#8221; explains J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Deloof. &#8220;Most online retailers offer\nconsumer cells only, that are all equipped with a Chemical Switch&#8221;. This protective\nmechanism prevents deep discharge of the cell. If the cell voltage falls below\na certain threshold, the cell switches off immediately and the current flow\nstops. Even if there was still capacity, the battery is useless from that\nmoment on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As useful\nas this chemical switch is in the consumer sector, it is an absolute knockout\ncriterion for the use of corresponding batteries in locking cylinders. A door\nlock that cannot be opened anymore from one moment to the other? Unthinkable!\n&#8220;For this reason, we at Jauch only offer industrial batteries without\nChemical Switch. This saves the end user unpleasant surprises and also makes it\neasier to program the battery management system to optimize the replacement\nintervals,&#8221; says J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Deloof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of\nbattery replacement, it is thus safe to say that if you need an ER or CR2 cell,\nit\u2019s always best to contact the manufacturer directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#134094\">Lithium Button Cells for Simple Locking Systems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Electronic\nlocking mechanisms do not only secure the entrance doors of companies and\nprivate homes. Numerous hotel chains, for example, have already equipped their\nroom doors with electronic locks some time ago. Many swimming pools and fitness\nstudios also secure their lockers with electronic locking systems.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/smart-home-4905021_1280_zugeschnitten.jpg\" alt=\"An electronic door lock. \" class=\"wp-image-1633\" width=\"508\" height=\"322\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/smart-home-4905021_1280_zugeschnitten.jpg 1015w, https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/smart-home-4905021_1280_zugeschnitten-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/smart-home-4905021_1280_zugeschnitten-768x487.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/smart-home-4905021_1280_zugeschnitten-280x177.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>These locks are usually much less complex than the locking cylinders described above. &#8220;The power requirement of these applications is correspondingly lower and can already be covered by a lithium button cell. We usually recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jauch.com\/en-INT\/products\/battery_technology\/getPrm\/batteries\/lithium%20button%20cells\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"a CR2450 cell of our 'Jauch'-brand (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">a CR2450 cell of our &#8216;Jauch&#8217;-brand<\/a>&nbsp;to our customers. With a continuous discharge current of 4 mA, these cells are ideally suited for many simple locking systems,&#8221; says J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Deloof. CR2450 cells also save a lot of space and are easy to procure and replace by the end user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same\napplies to lithium iron sulfide batteries.
